We're just two guys (Oreste from New York and Deon from Cape Town) trying to conquer the world with our baked goods!
We make the most delicious pies daily, using only the freshest ingredients sourced from local purveyors.
Our cooking is a labor of love. We pour our heart and soul into every dish, so you can experience the same clean, delicious, homemade food that we grew up with. It's a taste of our childhood, baked fresh every day.
Pie Passion
Oreste started making them more than a decade ago in Chicago, mostly for special occasions and celebrations. After living in South Africa for five years, we decided to open our first retail outlet. Our original shop was Empanada Mama and The Pie Man, located in East Lakeview, Chicago. After doing business for about three years, we completely outgrew the space and decided to buy the House of Pies in Alanson, which later became the Sweet and Savory Pie Company.
Our food philosophy centers around our passion for using quality ingredients and offering the best customer service—always! There's that and the fact that we love a good crust. Nothing compares to anticipating the first bite of a freshly baked pie with a fantastic butter crust and delicious filling. That's why our pastry is made in-house, having been perfected over a number of years of trial and error.
